London Frog Day

Held at the International Students' Building in Great Portland Street, the venue was easy to find, being directly over the road from the tube station.  Situated in one of the small rooms downstairs, the vendors were well represented from Holland, and I believe one of them was from Denmark.

A broad selection of frogs were for sale, including D. auratus, leucomelas, tinctorius (FG, black and white, Taeffelberg) and histrionicus, as well as Red-eyed Tree frogs.  Also present were three different sized fruit flies and cultures, models, badges etc. as well as sundries like bogwood, heater mats and so forth.

The kindness of the Dutch hobbyists was demonstrated when I took delivery of a pair of D. azureus.  I had arranged for them to be delivered to the show when I was unable to attend their show in Niemagen. I was also able to purchase a large 'pair' of Black and White D. tinctorius for what I considered to be a very reasonable price.  Although I have since lost the D. azureus (they just faded away) the other animals I bought from Dutch breeders have all grown well, especially P. vittatus and grey legged D. tinctorius.  I look forward to visiting Holland again, whilst not forgetting to patronise the show in London.

'Taking care of your own' is an expression which we are all familiar with.  We should not forget to patronise our own Newsletter. Many members have so much knowledge in frog culture.  But if we are not prepared to share it with others then we might lose not only the Newsletter, but we could end up losing contact with each other to such a degree that the hobby becomes insular and eventually dries up altogether.

If you have something to say, let's hear about it. That way, thousands of animals imported into this country every year may stand a better chance of survival and reproduction. This would alleviate pressures upon the wild stock. So.....

How about some of you putting pen to paper and sharing your wealth of knowledge?  We look forward to hearing from you.
