This was organised on November 11th and 12th 1999 by the I.G.F (German Dendrobatid Group). It was held at the Hotel Brunnerhof, Weibersbrunn, about an hourÁs drive from Frankfurt).
I decided I would drive to Germany as I figured that if I was going to buy any frogs at the show it would be easier to get them back by car. The journey from Calais to Weibersbrunn took only six hours, being motorway the whole way. Because of the distance I had travelled the day before I stayed at the Hotel which charged 90DM for a double room with single occupancy. This price included Continental breakfast. The show started at 10am for anyone wanting to buy plants, which were plentiful and very inexpensive. The event was due to start at midday. However, the doors didn't actually open until after 12.30. This was due to inspectors from some German organisation making sure that the frogs being sold were being kept in suitable containers. By the time the doors opened a very large queue had formed and there followed a lot of pushing and shoving. There were 2 rooms, one solely for frogs while the other was reserved for frogs and foods (crickets, fruit flies, deerfly, springtails etc.), books, frog novelties and so forth. |
The poison-arrow frogs that I saw for sale included D. tinctorius (French Guiana, Citronella Brazilian, Greyleg, Pallid), D. auratus, (Green, Blue, Brown, Black, Bronze), D. ventrimaculatus (French Guiana, Red, Green), D. pumilio (Orange), D. imitator (Green), E. boulengeri, E. pictus, D. galactonotus (Red, Orange), P. terribilis (Golden), E. tricolor, E. trivittatus, D. azureus, D. leucomelas, D. truncatus, P. vittatus and P. aurotaenia. There were also some tree frogs for sale.
The prices ranged from 50DM for a juvenile D. leucomelas to 200DM for a juvenile Golden P. terribilis.
The next show in Weibersbrunn is April 8th and 9th 2000 at the same venue.
